A guide to how I mark in math

As I start to return assessments in math I just wanted to let parents know about my marking system.

Each assessment will be marked using the four areas of math learning:

Knowledge

Thinking 

Communication 

Application

Each of the four areas will receive its own level.

The knowledge and understanding will change depending on the area of math we are working on, but the other three areas remain constant.

Here is a basic rubric 

	Comments	Level 1	Level 2	Level 3	Level 4
Knowledge and understanding of mathematical concepts - Area of a trapezoid - Area of a composite figure
Thinking - choose appropriate strategies to solve problems - ensure solution is  reasonable
Communication - expresses and organizes mathematical thinking - appropriate math vocabulary
Application - Using knowledge in familiar and new situations
